There’s something genuinely magical about watching the Manhattan skyline shrink behind you as your ship pulls away from port. No flights, no layovers, just a straight shot from the city to turquoise water. That’s exactly how my 7-night Bermuda cruise aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship kicked off. If you are looking for an honest Norwegian Aqua Bermuda cruise review, this itinerary deserves a spot on your list.
If you’re an East Coast traveler dreaming of a tropical getaway without the airport hassle, this itinerary deserves a spot on your list. Here’s my full, honest breakdown of what to expect, the good, the surprising, and the few things I’d do differently next time.
Table of Contents
Flying Into New York Was Easier Than I Expected
I flew into LaGuardia Airport the night before embarkation, which was actually my first time using LGA, and I was pleasantly surprised. The airport felt clean, modern, and genuinely easy to navigate, which made for a low-stress start to the trip.
For my pre-cruise stay, I booked a room at voco Fiorello – LaGuardia East by IHG. The outside is a little unassuming, but the rooms were modern and comfortable, and the included airport shuttle made the whole arrival feel effortless.

Pro tip: If you’d rather skip the rideshare guessing game and arrange a reliable, pre-booked airport transfer in advance, I personally recommend Welcome Pickups. It’s an easy way to start (and end) your cruise without any transportation stress.
Embarkation at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal: Smooth Sailing From the Start
One of the biggest perks of this itinerary is sailing directly out of the Manhattan Cruise Terminal; you’re departing from the heart of the city, no extra transfers required.
My boarding window was 12:00–12:30 PM, and thanks to my Platinum status with Norwegian, I had priority boarding. We were on board within about 15 minutes of arriving at the terminal, one of the fastest embarkations I’ve experienced. Like any seasoned cruiser, the muster drill was our very first stop before exploring the ship.
First Impressions of Norwegian Aqua

Embarkation day chaos is pretty much universal across every cruise ship, and Aqua was no exception. The layout felt a little confusing at first. But once the crowds thinned out, everything started clicking into place.
The ship itself is gorgeous: fresh, modern, and clearly designed with intention. One of my favorite discoveries early on was just how many complimentary dining venues exist beyond the main buffet.
Speaking of which, Surfside Café and Surfside Grill (the buffet) felt noticeably smaller than on other NCL ships, likely because Aqua leans so heavily into its other casual dining options. Since the buffet was packed on embarkation day, I headed to Hudson’s(Main Dining Room) for lunch instead, and I’m so glad I did.

Hudson’s Quickly Became a Favorite
Hudson’s is stunning. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap the dining room, giving you sweeping ocean views without having to fight for a window seat.
There are two main dining rooms onboard: Hudson’s and the Commodore Room on Deck 6. The Commodore Room is attractive and usually quicker to get seated, but Hudson’s wins on atmosphere and views hands-down. If Hudson’s has a wait, the Commodore Room is a great backup.
My Honest Balcony Stateroom Review: Cabin 10172

I stayed in balcony stateroom 10172, located midship Deck 10 on the port side, and overall, the room exceeded my expectations for storage and space. It included:
- Plenty of bathroom storage
- Multiple closet drawers and shelving
- Generous hanging space
- Room to tuck luggage neatly under the bed
The balcony itself felt noticeably more spacious than older Norwegian ships in the Breakaway class, and the upgraded furniture gave it a premium feel. I spent several evenings out there just unwinding before bed.
A couple of honest notes for future cruisers: when the beds are split into two twins, the walkway to the balcony gets very tight, almost like sleeping right next to the door. Also, our luggage didn’t arrive until close to 7:00 PM, well past sail away. Norwegian does leave a note encouraging guests to contact Guest Services if bags haven’t shown up by 8:00 PM, so keep that in mind.
Dining on Norwegian Aqua: So Many Good Options

Dining variety might be Aqua’s biggest strength. Over the course of the week, my go-to spots were The Local, Indulge Food Hall, Hudson’s, the Commodore Room, and the Observation Lounge snack area.
The Local Became My Daily Go-To
Open 24 hours, The Local quickly became the most-visited venue of the entire cruise. It’s casual, consistent, and works equally well for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late-night snack.
Indulge Food Hall Was a Delicious Surprise
I visited Indulge Food Hall twice, and it did not disappoint. Portions are intentionally smaller, but you can order as much as you’d like, which makes it easy to sample everything. Watching the chefs hand-make naan bread in the tandoor ovens was a highlight, and the garlic naan alone is worth the trip.
Specialty Dining Worth Booking
My Free at Sea package included three specialty dining meals, and each one brought something different to the table.
Cagney’s Steakhouse continues to be one of my favorite specialty restaurants across the entire Norwegian fleet, with reliably excellent food and service.
Le Bistro is gorgeous, with dramatic chandeliers and beautiful décor. The food was very good, though the service felt a touch rushed compared to the relaxed specialty-dining pace I usually expect.
Palomar was the biggest surprise of the cruise. The Mediterranean-inspired menu, relaxed vibe, and attentive service made it one of the best meals onboard. I’d book it again without hesitation.
Entertainment on Norwegian Aqua: A Must-See Lineup

Entertainment was one of the strongest parts of this sailing. As a longtime Prince fan, I was completely won over by “Revolution,” the Prince-inspired production in the Aqua Theater, high-energy, nightclub-style, and an absolute blast.
Here’s the part future cruisers really need to know: arrive early. The Aqua Theater is small, seating fills fast, and Deck 6 is largely standing-room only, with guests sometimes moving alongside the performers during set changes. If you’d rather sit, head straight to Deck 7 or 8. There’s no reservation system, so it’s first come, first served, and a portion of seating is reserved for Haven guests.
I actually got turned away from the 7:30 PM show because it reached capacity, so I lined up right after that performance ended to guarantee a spot at 9:30 PM. Worth noting: the show is rated PG-13 with a few suggestive moments, though I did see some families with younger kids in the audience.
Later in the week, Aqua also featured a Fleetwood Mac-inspired “Rumours” performance alongside other original productions. The entertainment lineup leaned heavily into 70s and 80s nostalgia, and as someone who loves that era of music, I was thrilled.
Three Full Days in Bermuda: One of the Best Itineraries from New York

This wasn’t my first trip to Bermuda, and it certainly won’t be my last. The 7-night itinerary is one of the most relaxing options for East Coast travelers, largely because Norwegian Aqua spends three full days docked at the Royal Naval Dockyard.
It’s an incredibly convenient port, with easy access to shopping, restaurants, nearby beaches, ferry transportation, public buses, and excursions departing right from the dockyard.
Bonus: The Complimentary Ferry to St. George’s

On select 7-night sailings, Norwegian offers a complimentary ferry to St. George’s, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Bermuda’s eastern side. Think historic streets, colonial architecture, charming local shops, and waterfront cafes; it’s well worth the scenic ferry ride to explore beyond the dockyard.

While in Bermuda, I also wandered the dockyard shops and took the “Tea and Tales” excursion, which included a scenic island tour, a stop at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, and afternoon tea at the Willowbank Resort. Since the weather departing New York was cooler, I didn’t get to fully enjoy Ocean Boulevard and the outdoor promenade until temperatures warmed up in Bermuda. Once they did, I spent every spare moment outside.
Final Thoughts: Norwegian Aqua Bermuda Cruise Review Verdict

Would I sail NCL Aqua again? Absolutely! Without hesitation.
Norwegian Aqua feels modern without losing the fun, casual energy NCL is known for. The dining variety exceeded my expectations, the entertainment was genuinely excellent, and the Bermuda itinerary remains one of my favorite cruise options departing from New York.
If you love modern ships, strong entertainment, endless dining choices, Bermuda itineraries, nostalgic live music, and an easy East Coast departure, Norwegian Aqua belongs on your radar.
